Diaz's dazzling second half double secures famous victory
The Liverpool star was on target twice in the second period as Colombia overcame Brazil 3-2 at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
Just days after Luis Diaz scored the equalizing goal against Brazil in the Copa America, the tricky winger struck the first blow in the 2026 World Cup hosts Colombia's first victory over their rivals since 2019.
Brazil had taken the lead after Casemiro scored in the 10th minute, but James Rodriguez leveled from the spot for the hosts before the break. After the restart, Diaz took over, sliding home a lovely through ball from Juan Cuadrado before doubling the lead with a delightful chip over Alisson Becker.
It was a famous victory for Colombia, who will now be confident of making a deep run in the 2026 World Cup. Brazil, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back in their next match against Argentina.
